A cushion is a square with its corners rounded off, so it reads softer than an octagon and fuller than a pear cut to the same millimetres. At 7 x 5mm it sits as a statement stone rather than an everyday one. Made to order in our Bangkok studio.<\/p>\n<h3>Details and materials<\/h3>\n<p>The stone is 7 x 5mm. Four prongs hold it with small claws and leave the back of the gem open, which is why a transparent stone looks brighter here than it would in a closed setting. Carat weight is not quoted because coloured stones differ in density and millimetres do not convert straight into weight, so two stones the same size can weigh differently.<\/p>\n<p>Every gemstone is natural. Sapphire, ruby and emerald come eye clean at A to AA, and semi-precious material is loupe clean AA to AAA. Setting and chain are 925 sterling silver with a 0.5 micron plating in silver, yellow gold, rose gold or rhodium white, which holds its colour about 3 years. Rhodium asks least of you. Solid gold in 9K, 14K or 18K is made to order and never plated.
