The octagon is 7 x 5mm and lands near 1.00ct. The pear shares that footprint but is a lighter shape, closer to 0.70ct, and its tip has to be buried in metal so the point cannot chip or catch on a jumper. Both figures are estimates. Density changes from one gem species to the next, so the scale does not always agree with the millimetres.<\/p>\n<p>Ruby, sapphire and emerald come eye clean, graded A to AA. Semi-precious stones are cut loupe clean, AA to AAA. The ring is 925 sterling silver with a 1 micron plated finish in silver, yellow gold, rose gold or white gold with rhodium, good for roughly 3 years before the colour softens.
