The Two Natural Gemstones Ring in Octagon and Round is the pairing with the biggest contrast in it. A round brilliant is cut for flash. Dozens of small facets, light bouncing back at you as the hand moves. An octagon is cut for depth, long flat steps that let you see into the colour. Put them together and each one makes the other more obvious. Set by hand in our Bangkok studio.
Details and materials
Two natural stones sit beside each other on the band, an octagon step cut at 7x5mm and a round brilliant at 5mm. That is roughly 1.00ct next to 0.50ct, about 1.50ct on the finger. Roughly is the right word, because coloured stones differ in density and the same cut in two materials will not land on the same weight. As you move, the round throws light and the octagon stays steady.
Emerald, ruby and sapphire come eye clean at A to AA. The semi-precious stones are loupe clean, AA to AAA. Sizes US 6 through US 8.5.
The band is 925 sterling silver under 1 micron plating. Pick silver, yellow gold, white gold with rhodium or rose gold. That layer holds its colour about 3 years, and rhodium is the low maintenance choice, since silver under it will not tarnish. Solid gold in 9K, 14K and 18K is made to order, so write to us first for a quote.

Which stone sparkles more? The round, easily. Its facet pattern is designed to throw light back. The octagon glows rather than flashes, and shows colour more honestly.
Can I match the two colours? You can, and one colour across two cuts looks refined. But this pairing is at its best with two different stones, because the cuts already contrast.
