The Oval Cut Natural Gemstone Stud Earrings set your stone in a soft oval instead of a circle. The reason to prefer it is simple: an oval has more surface area than a round stone of the same weight, so it looks larger on the ear for the same stone. They stay small and stay put, the kind you put in and forget. Sold by the piece and made to order in our Bangkok studio.
Details and materials
Sold as single earrings, so order two if you want a pair, and they do not have to hold the same stone. Each one takes a natural oval cut at 7 x 5mm, which comes out at roughly 0.90ct, a shade under what an octagon of the same footprint would weigh. Carat is approximate on any coloured stone, because density is not the same from one gem to the next.
Pick a precious stone and it is eye clean, A to AA. Aquamarine and opal are loupe clean AA to AAA, and the amethyst or topaz group is loupe clean AAA. The mount is 925 sterling silver with a 0.5 micron plating in silver, yellow gold, rose gold or rhodium white, which should look right for 3 years.
