The Octagon-Pear Cut Natural Gemstone Stud Earrings use a cut you will not see often: the tapered point of a pear, with the straight faceted edges of an octagon down the sides. It is a stud, so it stays flat to the ear and you can wear it all day, but it does not read as a plain dot the way a round does. Sold by the piece and made to order in our Bangkok studio.
Details and materials
Sold one earring at a time, so order two for a pair, or one if you are filling a second piercing. You pick the cut as well as the stone. A 7x5mm octagon lands around 1.00ct, a 6x4mm pear closer to 0.40ct. Carat here is a diamond equivalent and coloured stones are not all the same density, so take it as a guide.
The stone is held in a closed setting on a flat post. Ruby, emerald and sapphire come eye clean at A to AA. Everything on the semi-precious list is loupe clean, AA to AAA.
925 sterling silver underneath, with a 0.5 micron plating in silver, yellow gold, white gold (rhodium) or rose gold. That finish keeps its colour about 3 years. Prefer solid gold? What is an octagon-pear cut? A pear shape with the curved sides replaced by straight faceted edges, so it tapers to a point but reads geometric rather than soft.
Why sold by the piece? So you can buy one, replace a lost one, or order two in different stones. Add two to the basket for a pair.
Which gemstone can I pick? Any natural stone we carry. The cut has flat faces, so it favours stones with good colour over sparkle. Ask us and we will point you at the ones that suit it.
