How to Write Your Name in Thai, and Wear It

How to Write Your Name in Thai, and Wear It

Living in Thailand changes you in small, lasting ways. You pick up the language, the food, and the rhythm of the place. For many of us, wearing our name in Thai script is a way to carry a little of that with us every day.

Try it free: write your name in Thai with our name translator, then come back here to see what the spelling means.

This guide covers how to write your name in Thai and everything worth knowing before you order a Thai name necklace or an initial necklace, from how Thai letters work to choosing materials, sizing, and style.

Why wear your name in Thai?

A name necklace is personal by definition, but a name written in Thai adds a second layer of meaning. It marks a connection to a country you have chosen to call home, it sparks conversation, and it looks beautifully different from the usual Latin-script nameplate. For expats and long-term residents, it is one of the most personal pieces you can own, and one of the most thoughtful gifts you can give a partner, parent, or friend who loves Thailand.

Thai name or Thai initial: which is right for you?

There are two popular ways to wear your name.

  • A full name necklace spells out your whole name in Thai letters. It makes a bold, expressive statement and is the classic choice. See our Custom Thai Name Necklace.
  • An initial necklace uses a single Thai letter, usually the first letter of your name. It is subtle and easy to wear every day. Our Thai Initial Side Necklace sets the letter to one side, so it rests at a gentle angle along the collarbone.

If you want something understated, start with an initial. If you want your full name to be the centrepiece, a name necklace is the way to go.

A quick look at how Thai script works

Thai is written with 44 consonants and a set of vowel symbols that can sit above, below, before, or after a consonant. Because of this, a name in Thai is rarely a simple letter-for-letter swap from English. The sound of your name is written out, which is why two people might spell the same English name slightly differently in Thai.

You do not need to know any of this to order. Send your name in English and our team will convert it to Thai, then confirm the spelling and layout with you before anything is made. If you already know how you like your name written, even better.

Materials and quality

Good name jewelry should last. At Colors by Love, every piece is made from solid 925 sterling silver and finished with a durable 0.5-micron plating. You can choose:

  • Silver for a classic, understated look
  • Yellow gold for warmth
  • Rose gold for a soft, modern tone
  • White gold (rhodium) for a bright, cool finish

For solid gold or other special requests, just ask. Every piece carries a 3-year warranty.

How custom Thai name jewelry is made

Custom pieces are made to order, not pulled from bulk stock. The process is simple:

  1. Choose your details. Pick the chain style, length, and finish, then tell us the name or letter you want.
  2. We confirm the design. Our team checks the Thai spelling and layout with you so it is exactly right.
  3. Handcrafted in Bangkok. Your piece is made by hand in our studio in Phra Khanong, usually within 7 to 10 days.
  4. Delivered free. Shipping is free anywhere in Thailand, with tracking.

Choosing the right chain length

Most name and initial necklaces look best at 38cm, 40cm, or 45cm. As a rough guide, 38 to 40cm sits higher on the neck, while 45cm sits lower towards the collarbone. Every chain comes with a 3cm adjustable extender, so you have room to fine-tune the fit.

Styling and gift ideas

A Thai name or initial necklace works on its own or layered with other fine chains. A few ideas:

  • Layer an initial necklace with a longer pendant for an easy, everyday look.
  • Gift a child’s name in Thai to a new parent.
  • Mark an anniversary, or a move to Thailand, with your own name or your partner’s.
  • Match initials between two people as a quiet, personal pair.

Caring for your necklace

Sterling silver is easy to look after. Keep it dry, take it off before swimming or showering, and store it in a soft pouch when you are not wearing it. A gentle polish with a soft cloth brings back the shine. With a little care, a well-made piece will last for years.
