Which two stones should I choose? Two birthstones is the common answer. Any two natural gemstones work. The oval holds colour along its length and the square shows it flat, so a pale stone reads better as the oval.

Details and materials

Two natural gemstones, a 7x5mm oval and a 4mm square, sit in separate settings filed level with each other so neither stone rides higher on the finger. The oval works out around 0.90ct and the square about 0.30ct, near enough 1.20ct across the pair. Density changes with colour, so those numbers are close rather than exact.

You pick both stones at checkout. Birth months are the usual answer, though plenty of people go by colour instead. Emerald, ruby and sapphire arrive eye clean at A to AA. The semi-precious stones are loupe clean, AA through AAA depending on the type.
